Guide for Rights Holders

How to file and manage DMCA claims on FlareNetwork

Requirements for Filing a Claim

To file a DMCA claim on FlareNetwork, you must:

  • Have a FlareNetwork account — claims are tied to your account for identity verification, communication, and tracking
  • Provide a URL to your original copyrighted work — so the creator and our team can verify ownership
  • Describe the infringement — explain specifically how your copyrighted material appears in the video
  • Provide a fair use rebuttal — explain why the creator's use of your work does not qualify as fair use
  • Submit a sworn declaration — confirm under penalty of perjury that you are the copyright owner (or authorized representative) and that the information is accurate

You may also optionally upload an authorization document (PDF) if you are acting on behalf of the copyright owner, and provide timestamps indicating where in the video the infringement occurs.

Step-by-Step Filing Guide

  1. Go to the File a DMCA Claim page
  2. Enter the URL of the infringing video and click "Lookup" to confirm the correct video
  3. Fill in the description of infringement (minimum 50 characters)
  4. Optionally add start/end timestamps to pinpoint the infringing section
  5. Provide the URL to your original copyrighted work
  6. Write your fair use rebuttal (minimum 50 characters)
  7. Upload an authorization document if applicable
  8. Check the sworn declaration checkbox
  9. Submit the claim

What Happens After Filing

Once you submit your claim, the content creator is immediately notified and has 7 days to respond. You can track the status of your claim in your Message Center under the Claims section.

Possible creator responses:

  • Accept — the creator enters a 7-day rectification period to fix the content
  • Dispute — the creator files a counter-notice, and you will have 7 days to respond
  • No response — after 7 days, you win the claim by default

Responding to Counter-Notices

If a creator disputes your claim, you will be notified and have 7 days to respond. Your options are:

  • Satisfy — accept the counter-notice and withdraw your claim
  • Withdraw — voluntarily drop the claim
  • Escalate — request FlareNetwork's team review the dispute

If you do not respond within 7 days, the creator wins by default.

Tracking Claims in the Message Center

All your filed claims appear in the Claims section of your Message Center. From there you can:

  • View the current status of each claim
  • See deadlines and time remaining
  • Read and send messages to the creator
  • Take actions (satisfy, withdraw, escalate) when it's your turn to respond
